Formation of AI and Modern Technologies Committee

Taj: Fans Are Eager for a Revolution in Football Operations

President Mehdi Taj declaring that supporters expect sweeping innovations in how football is managed and delivered.

Today, the Football Federation convened its inaugural meeting of the AI and Modern Technologies Committee, attended by President Mehdi Taj, the vice president, senior federation and league officials, along with leading artificial intelligence specialists and data analysts.

Taj opened the session by underscoring that in a world of rapid technological advancement, football—an ever-evolving industry—must harness cutting-edge tools to optimize and streamline its processes. He pointed to the federation’s commitment since June last year to standardize stadium infrastructure alongside clubs and provincial sports authorities, noting that all but two top-flight venues have already received major hardware upgrades.

“Now, our focus must shift to software innovations,” Taj said. “Artificial intelligence holds the key to transformative improvements across refereeing, VAR support, medical diagnostics, match scheduling, technical planning, electronic ticketing, stadium operations, and fan engagement.”

He mandated that the committee meet daily and publicly share its findings, calling for the inclusion of leading national experts to accelerate and enrich the implementation roadmap. Taj praised the progress made in recent months but stressed that football’s enthusiasts and the media must tangibly feel the impact of these initiatives.

“The fans of Iranian football are eagerly awaiting transformation in our operational methods and systems,” Taj asserted. “By fully embracing AI, we will elevate the quality, transparency, and efficiency of our game.”

This landmark meeting marks the federation’s strategic pivot toward a data-driven, technology-empowered future—one designed to modernize domestic leagues and bolster the national teams’ competitive edge.
