Head of Refereeing Department:
“We Must Keep Progressing – No Mistakes Will Be Tolerated This Season”
Danial Moradi emphasized the importance of continuous education and advancement for referees, particularly in the implementation of VAR technology ahead of the new season.
Speaking on the third phase of VAR training, Moradi stated:
“The second group of eligible referees has started their training today. All referees who are qualified to operate in the VAR room are undergoing sessions alongside VAR technicians. The joint nature of these classes is crucial, as the topics are interlinked and require parallel understanding.”
He noted that the training includes full match simulations, followed by practical testing at the National Football Center:
“We are preparing the referees for real scenarios. They will be fully assessed through in-stadium VAR test exercises.”
Moradi highlighted the importance of accuracy:
“This season, we will not accept any errors. Mistakes, especially after reviewing footage in the VAR room, are simply not tolerable. Last year was our first full season with VAR and it went well. But this year, our expectations are higher, and the margin for error is zero.”
He also announced that the pre-season seminar for Persian Gulf Pro League referees will be held ahead of the league’s kickoff in the second week of August:
“We are working to bring in some of the best international referee instructors for this session.”
On the topic of youth integration, Moradi confirmed that the referee rejuvenation plan remains in progress:
“Over the past two years, we’ve begun incorporating younger referees. However, for high-stakes matches, especially toward the end of the season, we will rely on experienced officials to ensure control and confidence under pressure.”
The FFIRI continues its focus on professional development, technological integration, and accountability, aiming for a higher standard of officiating in the 2024–25 season.
