Coordination Meeting Held for VAR Implementation at Azadi Stadium
A technical coordination meeting regarding the installation and positioning of VAR cameras at Azadi Stadium was held today at the Public Relations Hall of the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI), with representatives from the IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) and the Sports Facilities Development & Maintenance Company in attendance.
The meeting was initiated by FFIRI to discuss technical aspects of establishing seamless connectivity between the stadium cameras and the VAR operation room, ensuring compliance with AFC standards for video-assisted refereeing.
Mohsen Hakim, Head of FFIRI’s VAR Department, explained:
“This session focused on assessing the optical fiber infrastructure of Azadi Stadium to support smooth and reliable transmission between the camera locations and the VAR operation unit.”
Hakim emphasized the importance of deploying state-of-the-art technology at Iran’s most iconic football venue.
“Given the scale of Azadi Stadium and the necessity of linking the OB van to the VAR room, it was agreed that the highest quality equipment—especially optical fiber systems—would be implemented. These upgrades will be synchronized with the stadium’s renovation plan to ensure matches hosted at Azadi meet the highest broadcasting and refereeing standards.”
The meeting concluded with all parties reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the matchday experience both for referees using VAR and for television audiences.
