Want the National Team Jersey? Meet the Expectations!
Vahid Shamsaei, head coach of Iran’s national futsal team, spoke about player performance, his meeting with the Minister of Sports, and the technical staff’s approach to player selection following the third week of the Premier League.
Shamsaei emphasized the importance of ministry support for futsal after meeting with Minister Ahmad Donyamali:
“We had a very productive meeting with Mr. Donyamali and the Ministry of Sports. His attention and sensitivity toward futsal are truly valuable. We tried to present a realistic picture of futsal’s current state, and we hope continued support will lead to national team success in upcoming tournaments.”
He also addressed recent challenges in planning for the national team and the CAFA tournament, noting:
“Unfortunately, some issues stemmed from external conflicts that even affected futsal. Still, the Football Federation and Futsal Committee had a well-structured plan. Mr. Taj and Mr. Kamyani are closely monitoring the team’s progress, and this unity will benefit the entire futsal community.”
Regarding player selection, Shamsaei said:
“We’ve reviewed the first three weeks of the Premier League. We still need to analyze the Week 3 footage for a more accurate assessment. We insist no player be overlooked. Provincial scouting, video analysis, and internal staff meetings help us choose the best.”
He stressed that past performance doesn’t guarantee future selection:
“Honestly, some players I expected more from haven’t returned to their previous form. No one’s past guarantees their future in the national team. On the other hand, several young players have performed impressively and are getting closer to final selection.”
On how transfers affect player performance, he stated:
“The Premier League is for professionals. Any player at this level has surely evaluated their new team before joining. A professional shows their quality even in a few minutes. We consider every detail and maintain good communication with club coaches to ensure deserving players aren’t overlooked.”
Finally, Shamsaei emphasized the importance of character:
“If you want the national team jersey, know that technical skill alone isn’t enough. Professional character means behavior both on and off the pitch. We miss nothing. Only players who excel in every aspect will be invited. This jersey has been worn by legends who brought honor to Iranian futsal. Anyone who wears it must add to that legacy—at home and abroad.”
